Note to My Readers

FlowerFirst of all, thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings about Uruguay.

Although this blog is less than two months old, it has already attracted a lot of attention. Viewership has more than quadrupled in the last three weeks and has been increasing daily. This increase in traffic is partly due to having been “discovered” by Google and the Yahoo search engines. An increasing number of readers land here every day because of this and many of these readers visit 20 or more pages on their initial visit. On an average day, 80 distinct visits are made and five or more pages are viewed per visit. In the last two weeks alone there were 500 unique visitors. Of those, more than 200 have come back to the site or do so on a regular basis.

As you may have noticed, I have been trying to write about the daily nitty-gritty, and about things expats might not discover until they lived there for a while. I do admit that my posts are somewhat North America centric, even though I’ve lived in Brazil, the US, a few countries in Europe and briefly in Canada. Perhaps because of this unintentional bias, North America represents the bulk of my readers: 55% are from the US, 12% from Canada, 11% from Uruguay and 22% from 35 other countries. Surprisingly, there are very few readers from the UK, fewer than from France, Spain, Australia and Japan.

I try to post new articles four times a week or more, but don’t always succeed. Some of the articles demand a significant amount of research to uncover links, vocabulary words, and other information. Besides, I am a lousy writer so it takes quite a bit of editing until I am happy with a post. My thinking has been quality over quantity; so don’t despair if it takes me three days to post.

At any given time, I have three or four articles in a queue, waiting for the right amount of motivation. So if you have suggestions about subjects you would like covered, do write. Please keep in mind, this site is the work of one person only and is not for commercial purposes.

I want to remind you that there are a lot of interesting links at the UY resources page. Once you navigate to a given branch and click on the branch name, you can then bookmark it for quick access in the future. Please let me know if you find a dead link or would like to have a link added to it.

Lastly, I would like to thank other bloggers who helped spread the word by linking to articles or by providing an entry link to the Uruguay Dreaming site.

Thank you,
Brazzie

I am one of your recently added frequent readers. As for myself, I love the variety of day to day things you write about. Keep listening to whatever little voice it is that has inspired you choices in the past. The older I get the greater the wanderlust stirs in me. But, being married to someone with not one ounce of adventure forces me to fill the need vicariously. Your writing is appreciated.

Brazzie, You can add one more country to your international audience. India. My company has set up an office in Montevideo. This means that people travel to and fro a lot from here. I’ve found your blogs very informative. esp. the one on cost of living. The info. you have provided is not very well documented as UY is not a destination you hear about often.

    Thank you.

I will Brazzie. I am quite excited about the place. Though i’ve heard getting vegetarian food is tough there?

As you probably already know Uruguay, Argentina and southern Brazil are famously carnivorous. However vegetarian restaurants do exist. For example, I saw one on Av Brasil in Pocitos called La Vegetariana. I think it is an all you can eat buffet type of place.

Your best bet might be to prepare your own food at home, since I doubt any of those restaurants are strictly Vegan.

Thanks for your excellent blog, I have added it to my list of favourites. I would also like to add that your site is beautifully presented. It is excellent that you have such high standards.

I am also surprised by the few visits from the UK. A recent survey published today says that 20 percent of the population would like to live overseas - Probably a weather thing.

Thank you Peter. I still do not have a good explanation for the missing UK readers. I suspect it may be because there are better alternatives closer to home than UY.
